Parody by HarrisonD (2020)

Overdue

I was mainly inspired for this project by the original song and how tightly written the lyrics were. I hope to be able to create music like it some day. The lyrics of my version were inspired by the feeling that I and many other students get of frantically turning in assignments late at night, which I feel the music from the original song suits well.

The main difficulty I encountered during this project was mostly that of burnout. In the beginning I really enjoyed working on this project but as I got further into it and things became more complicated, I found myself being less interested in completing it. In future projects, I will remember to better plan out what stages I work on at what times so as to complete projects with more efficiency. I would say my least favorite part about this project is the vocal recordings I made and used, though I am not sure how I could improve this. Obviously the best way to get better at something is to practice it, but I just really don’t see singing isn’t a skill that I need. I would say the aspect of this project I am most proud of is the effects I used on the singing audio so as to closer replicate the original song. I used various modifiers from the AudioSuite tab to make the audio change, for example a delay to make the background vocals sound like multiple people were singing, and a sort of robotic voice changing effect on some of the main lines.

While the effects I achieved are far from exemplary, I still had fun messing around learning about them. This project helped me better understand what goes into the making of a song. This project was mostly related to removing the vocals of the original song, but through that I learned how the vocals, effects, tempo and instruments interact to make appealing music. Doing this project really gave me a better understanding of the effort that is put into audio editing.
